wake up – “i gotta getaway”
Today, Highland Park’s wake up releases the video for “i gotta get away” from their album tigers can’t be choosers released via Paul Is Dead records in February. The video features the band’s frontman’s fiancé Kathryn Grace as a young woman fed up and frustrated with city life, who decides it’s time to flew the coop and live the cowboy life.
wake up is the recording project of multidisciplinary artist Evan Mui and a rotating cast of friends. the band’s original lineup recorded tigers can’t be choosers in 2014. however, relocations, lineup changes, and the band’s new lineup focused on new material, and so the album was indefinitely shelved.
When Mui relocated to LA in 2018, the lineup evolved once again, another incarnation formed. While the new formation has a full-length album finished and slated for release later this year, the band decided to release tigers can’t be choosers in the meantime as a testament to the past, in a time where nostalgia for better days is a necessity to keep us all going.
tigers can’t be choosers was released on Valentine’s Day of 2021 on digital and cassette, and will be available this summer on translucent mint vinyl from paul is dead records, pressed by Third Man in Detroit. Get it on Bandcamp.
