Greg Loiacono – “What Can I Say”

Our favorite NorCal crooner is back with another retro-pop swooner, streaming everywhere today via Blue Rose. “What Can I Say” is the third single in a series of four Greg recorded last summer.

Loiacono is accompanied on “What Can I Say?” by Mikael Jorgensen (Wilco), Pat Spurgeon (Rogue Wave), Charles James Gonzalez and Emilie Raines, while it was recorded at Coyote Hearing in Oakland, CA and mixed at Echo Magic in Ojai, CA by Scott Hirsch (Hiss Golden Messenger).

“As ‘What Can I Say?’ formed the delicate singing style kept working with the melody and the pleading lyrics, so I opted to sing  falsetto. The amount of Curtis Mayfield I was listening to during that time probably influenced the style, as well. A lot of us have been in a situation where we have asked for forgiveness even when we knew we probably wouldn’t get it. Sometimes you gotta put yourself out there regardless of the outcome.”

The other singles include “Seed” and the dreamy duet with Jamie Drake, “Bound to Fall” and follow Greg’s 2020 full-length release, Mystic Traces. “What Can I Say?” is streaming everywhere now.

In other news, Greg’s primary band, The Mother Hips, are also celebrating their 30th anniversary this year and Blue Rose is reissuing all ten of their studio albums on vinyl to celebrate. They’re also putting final touches on a new album to be released later this year.
