I’d Like to Walk Around In Your Mind: A British Folk Mixtape by Scott Hirsch

Scott Hirsch is one of our very favorite musicians, not only because of he’s a tremendous writer of songs and maker of sounds, but also because he’s a true head with a deep love for the classics and a wealth of musical knowledge. Scott turned me onto “the purple one” (Andy Irvine & Paul Brady), and talked about the time Linda Thompson came to the studio to record with his old band The Court & Spark, so I knew he’d be the perfect source for more unknown-to-me tracks within this tradition of music I love so much but have felt I’m barely scratching the surface on. I asked him if he’d be interested in making a wintry British folk mix and boy oh boy did he deliver, ripping these songs directly from vinyl and you can still hear the warm scratches and pops, adding warmth and texture to these incredible songs like so much north country fire.

I sat down to put together some music from the deep well of the British folk tradition. The breadth of the genre felt overwhelming at first, but that feeling was reconciled by simply following the tunes that I have loved and returned to again and again over the years. The music led me down a path to create a companion with which to curl up next to a fire on a wet chilly evening. And that’s all one could ask for really. I hope you enjoy the journey as much as I have.❤️

    Hi Lara,

I’m really enjoying your site and just had to reach out and say Thank You. Scott Hirsch’s Windless Day is an outstanding LP. I’m listening to Much Too Late as I type this. It’s so much fun going down these music rabbit holes not knowing where you’re going to wind up. Stay well and keep doin what you do.
