Strange Strings Excursions : A Mix by Son of Buzzi

Son of Buzzi is Blind Joey Deaf, the mysterious persona cultivated by Zurich musician Sebastian Bischoff. Earlier this year he released Fluss, a collection of “sound collages” made by layered, multi-dimensional guitar soli, electric guitar, and the sparkling, gentle sound of the river Limmat captured on New Year’s Eve. Bischoff is a talented player, and those field recordings are a differentiator, making Fluss stand apart from other guitar soli releases.

Fluss starts out quite simply, with plaintive, acoustic finger-picking on “Die Riese,” then becomes more multi-layered, with resonance as drone enters the territory on “Wir sind das Wasser,” the strums becoming more distinctive and dynamic; and whispery vocals and ambient noise add a haunting element with “Der Raum. The cascading waters of “Der Weg nach Hause” send us on our way, all in all a sweet, short, textured journey perhaps around the more remote, primitive side of the Zürichsee.

In the spirit of intricacy with a bit of spook on the side, Sebastian made us this mix.

A mix with music and sounds mostly released the past year(s) or so. Spacious, heady and sometimes slightly disturbing sound creations, dug up directly from the artists or from the labels or recommendation by one-person-blogs and -broadcasts. Not exhaustive, but the mix should be roughly an hour of music…there`s still so much more to dive into. Thank you!
