decker. – “Mojave”

Proud to share the latest single named after my favorite desert from my second favorite desert, Sonoran dweller decker.’s 8th studio album, Ouroborous, out June 9th via our beloved Royal Potato Family.

In his most ambitious and most epic work to date, Brandon Decker brought 16 musicians together to record at EastWest Studios (formerly Cello Studios) in Los Angeles to record their parts live- NO overdubs- over a mind-spinning two days. Strings, choir, horns, and all the usual suspects create a spectral orchestra of wonder, the collaborative spirit that always equates to more than the sum of its parts.

From the press release, “this latest offering arose out of the grief and bewilderment of watching his father die from cancer while Brandon was left to deal with the very real remnants of familial trauma. At the same crossroads came a painful end to a relationship with a woman he had planned to marry.”

“Mojave” brings earlier good Arcade Fire to mind, with decker.’s signature spacey flair. Another promising single (debut single “Sea Change” was released previously and is one of my favorites from the record) from a tremendous work.

The entire album and its processes of creation as a whole were really this real-time unfolding of my healing and navigation through an extremely painful time in life. So, it’s really this whole journey of grief, bewilderment, suffering and then peace and transcendence. Mojave is kind of the point of the madness we find ourselves in. The anger stage. It’s not the most comfortable place to be, but it is necessary to get to that place of peace and letting go.
