kintsugi – “Let Me Show You”
Good morning, please enjoy this track from brother-sister duo kintsugi, aka Kessiah and Stephan Gordon, who created a beautiful album Life in Death honoring their mother, out July 14th. The lead single was written shortly after her death in 2019 and the pair began listening to music, and then writing together, as a means of processing their grief. The end result is an intimate, moving dialog that serves as a reminder that minimal production can also evoke and express the heaviest of emotions. Softly sweeping synth and strings, classical grand piano and conversational acoustic guitar nod to their ancestry, honoring…

The Far Sound – “Further Exploration”
On June 2nd, Centripetal Force Records will release the debut self-titled album from The Far Sound, the solo project of multi-instrumentalist Rick Pedrosa (Abronia, Federale) A high lonesome meets Appalachia droning in every sense, zyls replete, a measured, raw drum-skin-filled reminiscent of Nathan Bowles meets The Howard Hughes Suite, totally out there and otherwordly and landing perfectly in Petal Motel world. The entire album is cinematic, enigmatic, and hypnotic. Although pedal steel takes center stage, as it often does, intoxicating synthesizers, luminescent banjo, and percussion weave a fine tapestry of sound, culminating in something completely unique and exotic- yet heimlich…

Prairiewolf – “Calcedonia”
I’d heard whispers of something tremendous brewing at the foot of the Rockies and the news was indeed as earth shaking as I’d hoped – the announcement of Prairiewolf’s debut studio record, out May 5th on the best psychedelic label in the nation, Centripetal Force. A Rocky Mountain supergroup of sorts featuring Stefan Beck (aka Golden Brown) on guitar and lap steel, Tyler Wilcox (Aquarium Drunkard) on bass, and Jeremy Erwin (the Heat Warps blog) on keys, this album features signature elements of each member’s sensibilities and the result is pulsar-like in its otherworldly awesome splendor. Unsurprising to learn that…

decker. – “Mojave”
Proud to share the latest single named after my favorite desert from my second favorite desert, Sonoran dweller decker.’s 8th studio album, Ouroborous, out June 9th via our beloved Royal Potato Family. In his most ambitious and most epic work to date, Brandon Decker brought 16 musicians together to record at EastWest Studios (formerly Cello Studios) in Los Angeles to record their parts live- NO overdubs- over a mind-spinning two days. Strings, choir, horns, and all the usual suspects create a spectral orchestra of wonder, the collaborative spirit that always equates to more than the sum of its parts. From…

Danny Paul Grody – “Light Blooms”

Anna St. Louis – “Phone”
The most dreamy and ethereal Anna St. Louis announces her return with the debut single, “Phone,” from upcoming LP In The Air, a name most suiting of St. Louis’s gossamer sounds. At first listen, this album is more dynamic than the stark beauty of previous records (not to dismiss either- it’s new and fresh, like… air!); less ponderous and more exultant, and still overwhelmingly gorgeous. And good news for me – pedal steel abounds. Watch the dreamy video for “Phone” here. On one level ‘Phone’ is a song about a heart yearning for connection with a distant love. Looking ahead…

Wila Frank – “Tonight”
Today Wila Frank shares “Tonight,” the latest single from her upcoming album Black Cloud, an album of longing, heartache, revenge (in the form of living well). Her lyrics cut to the bone, production is sparkling, and her voice is otherwordly. At first listen I thought of Fiona Apple, in terms of emotional depth and wisdom beyond her years. Tonight’ is about recognizing your own pain in someone else. As humans, I think we are all mirrors to one another and we long for each other in order to understand ourselves. Wila Frank Black Cloud is out May 12th. Pre-order it…

Roxy Gordon – “An Open Letter To Illegal Aliens”
Paradise of Bachelors is reissuing Roxy Gordon’s 1988 album Crazy Horse Never Died on May 12th. Regrettably, I’d never heard of the late Choctaw, Assiniboine, and Texan poet, journalist, artist, activist, and musician Roxy Gordon (First Coyote Boy) who passed in 2000, but reading about his lifelong accomplishments, plus the fact that Townes and Terry Allen loved him, had me intrigued. Gordon’s sound is John Prine meets John Trudell, with an mistakeable twang lending traces of levity to his straightforward, scathing yet truthful narrative reflecting on identity and history. The latest single is a wry and all too true take on…
