Subversive to Care – an AAPI Charity Benefit Compilation
Paul is Dead Records is releasing a star-studded, bandcamp-exclusive compilation of contribution from over 50 artists who are close friends and family members of the label. The compilation aims to bring attention to the alarming increase in hate crimes and general animosity and racism towards Asian-Americans and Pacific Islanders, to call on others to actively stand in solidarity with AAPI people, and to do everything possible to combat racism in all its nefarious forms.
Contributors include Jolie Holland, surferblood, wake up, Holland, birddog, ,spaceface, the natvral, eternal summers, and so many more.
Paul is Dead head Evan Mui says,
With the onset of racial tensions and violent hate crimes toward the AAPI community happening at an alarming rate, we felt there was a sense of urgency to put our heads together and call upon the collective to raise awareness and help for those who are in need. thus the idea for this compilation was born.
the title ‘subversive to care’ is based on a conversation i had a few weeks ago about the unfortunate lack of compassion and empathy which is so common these days; how the initial ethos of subculture was to rebel against the conservative and oppressive norms of society, whereas these days what is truly subversive is to care for your fellow human and be a genuinely compassionate and altruistic person.
‘subversive to care’ is a bandcamp.com exclusive and eclectic compilation of more than fifty artists who are close friends and family members of our label and we would like to take this opportunity to extend our deepest sense of gratitude and humility to each and every one of them for contributing their art to this cause.
You can purchase the album on Bandcamp and Bandcamp only. Get it here.
100% of the proceeds from downloads will be split between The National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum, Asian Mental Health Collective, and the Tibet Fund.
