Spring Bandcamp Friday Shopping List

Heyoooo it’s been a while but I’m trying hard to keep up and stay current so here’s a little roundup of music released this year I’ve been enjoying. My recommendations for your Bandcamp Friday purchase below:

Tony Delk’s 53 Point Game by Mavis Guitar
Microtones meet pedal steel in this album by two brothers, creating a balancing act between heavy and light. Sometimes soothing, sometimes metal, this unique record goes so many places.

Holding Pattern by Slow Clarity
Extremely heady Minneapolis psych fingerstyle from Steve Palmer (finally!) and Matt Beachey, from the always excellent Ramble Records.

Onliness (songs of solitude & singularity) by Josienne Clarke
Devastatingly gorgeous guitar stylings accompanied by Josienne’s equally striking modern classic British folk voice… jaw-dropping record.

In Your Honor by Rebecca Marcyes
Sparkling cosmic pop, Rebecca’s voice is reminiscent of Mirah with enough levity to balance out the wistfulness, the result being a perfect spring record. Produced by Skyway Man!

Crossing Water by Cat Tyson Hughes
Gorgeous ambient waves accenting field recordings of mainly, you guessed it, water. Sonic hydrotherapy.

The Beautiful Late by Mor Air & Luke Elliott
Everything Luke Elliott does is a realm beyond mere ambient – I don’t know how he does it and I don’t want to (I do) to preserve the magic. This collaboration between two prolific solo artists is more than meditative, it’s haunting.

Briars On A Dewdrop by Turner Williams Jr.
Extremely out there shahi baaja magick unlike anything you’ve ever heard.

On The Whole Universe In All Directions by Elkhorn
Has Elkhorn ever released anything less than fantastic? Drew and Jesse are back at it with some major vibes – literally. Let Drew Gardner’s vibraphone accompanied by Jesse Shepperd’s 12-string blow you safely home. Mastered by Andrew Weathers, does it get better?

Under an Endless Sky by Dorothy Moskowitz & The United States of Alchemy
Experimental beyond its time, this is Moskowitz’s first album since 1968, with Italian visionaries, culminating in a transcendent listening experience.

Green Ark by MV & EE
Freak folk at its finest- layers and layers of undulating instruments I’ve never heard of. absolute alien earth noise.

compassion: a petal motel compilation for human rights
Our own homegrown compilation featuring all of Petal Motel’s favorite artists is of course still for sale and proceeds are still going to the National Network of Abortion Funds. I’ve probably listened to this more than anyone and I am still discovering new sounds. I’ve been putting the last quarter of the album on repeat lately – Lifted River and Quintelium and Luke Elliott & Wynnm’s tracks are so moving.
