Skyway Man – “The Holding On”

James Wallace’s pseudonym could easily be JAMS Wallace, but he opts for Skyway Man, whom he describes as ” a superimposed image, always flickering in and out of existence, different each time. One Skyway Man chased love across dimensions, another followed death through the underworld, this Skyway Man is reckoning with the reliance of his past memory.” Memory and telepathy are major themes on his upcoming album, Flight of the Long Distance Healer, featuring friends like Andy Cabic and Erin Rae, out 11.32.23 on Mama Bird Recording Co. Drew Bourdet was the visionary behind this video, and Hayden Mason is an excellent DP who shot the 16mm and brought Drew’s vision to life. Click through the video to view more credits.

The Holding On is a dream song: like at least three others on this album, it was conceived immediately after waking up. In my dream, I cannot tell a lie, it was performed to me by a friend in the style of Merle Haggard at a karaoke dive. The whole thing is kind of a lonesome plea best suited for Country, however I decided to pull it away anyhow into a smoother Supertramp vehicle to serve the desperation needed in it’s Big-Star-Badfingery-glammed-out ending. I recorded this song in Oakland at the aptly named SKYLINE studios with the same lineup used on the Mikayla Mcvey album Time Turns Everything that I produced the previous year. Sam Doores of The Deslondes plays drums, Miles Lassi shook percussion and engineered, Danny Vitali on bass.

Skyway Man’s live show is vibrant and memorable, catch him on tour soon!
