Scott Hirsch – “Dreamer” (Live performance)
Scott Hirsch is releasing his third album, Windless Day, on October 8th. Lush and smooth, polished and perfected, the album showcases Hirsch’s finely tuned skill as an engineer and producer. His celestial songwriting style is in full effect, as heard on his latest single, “Dreamer.” Dreamy words and mystical themes abound, as usual. Highly recommend a listen underneath a pink sky.
Although the song on the record sounds full and orchestrated, the romantic, intimate essence of the song shines through in Scott and crew’s acoustic performance of the tune, Kelly McFarling’s harmonies exceptionally a highlight. Have a peek inside his Echo Magic studio for a glimpse of the enchantment.
The song’s lyrics explore a specific kind of travelling: a relationship only accessible within the dreamscape. Musically, Hirsch drops us into a deep well of sound, highlighted by Jesse Siebenberg’s lyrical pedal steel, swooning Hammond organ, and ghostly gospel vocals by Carolyn Dennis and Jade and Sharon Hendrix. The song is a duet of sorts, featuring songwriter Kelly McFarling, a voice Scott has worked closely with, having mixed Kelly’s recent critically acclaimed LP “Deep the Habit.” On “Dreamer,” Hirsch lures us into his dream world, and toward the end of the song lets out a slightly coy refrain, telling us “I’m only dreaming my dreams” as if to apologize for exposing his listeners to the warm embrace of his personal sonic space.
