Rose Haze – “Slow Decay”

Today, Bay Area-based band Rose Haze shares the premiere of the video for their new song, “Slow Decay.” What was Kate Ramsey’s alter-ego is now a full band, with misty, swirling guitars and synth, and timeless, soaring vocals, reminiscent of Swervedriver, sweetly discordant rather than saccharine. Shoegaze is alive with Rose Haze!

“Slow Decay” is very much a shoegaze wall of sound cloaked in analog synth swells and sweeps, which is exactly what Ruben Gonzales and Kate Ramsey do best over a rock-solid rhythm section. The lyrics tell a story of the cycle of life and death from the lens of Ramsey contemplating whether she would ever have children and the future of humanity as a species. It’s a song of hope despite fears of the slow decay of our planet.

This was one of the most painless video shoots for me ever and I’m happy with how it turned out. I’ve filmed and produced many of my own videos, which I do enjoy, but it’s really nice when I can just sit back and trust someone else while I get to simply be the actress and part of the band. Also, I got to showcase my “lone locust” secret weapon synth which I love. “Lone locust” comes from Space Ghost: Coast to Coast and I took it from a Zorak line, “I am the Lone Locust of the apocalypse. Think of me when you look to the night sky.” It’s very fitting for the concept of the video and I basically identify as Zorak.
