Nora Nygard – I Wish I Could See You

A stunning portrait of grief, loss, and isolation, Nora Nygard’s I Wish I Could See You is a finale to her epic body of work in this genre, after spending the last five years releasing over 300 ambient and drone pieces. The 40-minute piece piece begins tense and anxious, looming heavily, and gives way to something lighter, something emergent. Nora’s hushed vocals speak of her longing, her sadness, the weight of her grief, invoking her brother’s spirit, willing him to return, which ultimately, on some plane he does.

In her own words:

The album, primarily composed during the spring of 2020, is the outcome of a lifetime of self-destructive isolation, a subject examined by the lyrics, and deepened by the minimal and tense music. Doom, loss, and grief are the central themes; in 2020, Nora Nygard was visited by the ghost of her late brother. One of the few selfies he ever took appears on the cover, an image that could only be obtained by photographing the screen of his mid-2000s flip phone. After the release of I Wish I Could See You, Nygard’s focus will return to songwriting as well as composing contemporary dance scores.
