GospelbeacH : On Tour

GospelbeacH is bringing the sunshine to Europe this February. You can’t miss it, especially if you’ve never seen them. They’re the reason I go to shows in an almost insatiable, they brought me to so many other artists I love, Brent is probably the reason you’re reading this website! I’m listening to Let It Burn while I relay this story.

After seeing hundreds of whoever came through my small town when I was a teenager, I’d been burned out from music for a while. For years I wasn’t curious or excited about new music and I went to see a live show maybe once a year.

That all changed when I heard GospelbeacH. The short but full story is, dissatisfied with a former colleague’s latest record, I decided to find out where the missing magic went. I looked up what Neal Casal had been up to lately aside from CRB, who I was not into (yet.) I remember putting on Pacific Surf Line in my sunny apartment in East Hollywood, and thinking “holy shit.” Just like that, I remembered why I loved music so much. I listened to that album over and over for days on end, and while doing some research I saw that they were playing a show that very week at the Bootleg Theatre.

I was nervous to be at a show for the first time in so long, especially alone. I sat on a barstool and waited while other bands played and thought about leaving, but then the band appeared and they played and it fuckin’ kicked my ass, man! I was back in it. The rest is history. I’ll see GospelbeacH whenever, wherever I can, I’ll fly across the country, whatever! They get three Michelin stars meaning “worth traveling for,” no doubt. And in general, I just.. didn’t stop going to shows after that. They’re no doubt the heart of the Los Angeles music scene, and interwoven with and inspiring so many other amazing projects and artists, their rays extend across the land.

Whatever the lineup is, Brent and his band bring contagious enthusiasm and energy. The current ensemble is one of the best iterations I’ve seen, the band is tight, each musician accomplished in their own right and flourishes alongside one another. It’s impossible not to sing along and shake your butt when GospelbeacH is playing. Pure perfect California rock gold. Man, I love this band so much. Please go see them so your life can be changed for the better as well.
