Farewell, Tres Warren

I was pretty late to the game with Psychic Ills but when I started listening to them a few years ago, I never stopped. I can’t count how many times Inner Journey Out was stuck on repeat as I sat alone staring at mountains as the sun melted across the valley. The songs on that album, in particular, stir something inside me so deeply, I hesitate to attempt to describe or disclose it. Tres’ words, his voice, his prowess, his playing, made Psychic Ills one of the most unique and consistent bands of the millennium. There is something so intimate and sensual about their music… it’s just honestly truly unearthly. Haunting and gorgeous and heartbreaking and also just… fucking nasty (in the best way possible.)

I was so hoping to hear more music from them and that I’d get to see them play. Sending so much love to his friends and family and fellow music makers. Thanks for leaving us with so much beauty.

Listen to Psychic Ills if you haven’t, the most mind-melting, fluid, sophisticated, sexiest psych band of our generation. Sacred Bones just put up a limited edition of One Track Mind on Bandcamp and you can find more of their discography there and on other streaming platforms.

Take care of each other. Tell your friends you love them.
