Pelt announces new album, Resistance Reticence, as part of Three Lobed’s 20th anniversary series
The next release up from the always-great Three Lobed Recordings’s 20th anniversary series is… drumroll please… PELT! Everyone’s favorite freak folk ensemble has returned, bridging the gap between drone and folk, past, present and future, tradition and invention. Resistance Reticence is available now for pre-order and out in the world on October 29th.
The two sides of Resistance Reticence are aural tapestries, sonic abstract paintings – the kind of thing that at first glance would make you think, “I could do that”-but you didn’t-and you realize you wouldn’t, and probably couldn’t-and therein lies their genius. Today you can hear a preview of the group’s fountainous, jewel-encrusted cacophony of brilliant melodic noise, harmonium, fiddle, banjo, hand drums, and even what-sounds-like sound bowls bleeding into one another and becoming more than the sum of their parts.
Featuring the core lineup of Patrick Best, Mike Gangloff, Nathan Bowles, and Mikel Dimmick, the album was recorded at Cafe OTO in London over the course of two nights in February 2017. The album is technically two songs (Side 1 is Diglossia, side 2 a suite of Sundogs-Chiming-The Door Hill), so today you get a sneak peek – and if you pre-order, you can hear side 1.
Resistance Reticence is out October 29th on Three Lobed. Pre-order it on Bandcamp.
